As some may have noticed and others may have knew - LANmine has officially come to an end. Much sooner than we would have liked; we originally envisioned this event lasting for quite some time. However lack of attendance and interest, bounded together with financial difficulties for the staff brought a quick end to that idea. Six events later we decided to call it quits. The Chicago LAN community exists as a mere shell of what it once was. The fault for that isn't of any one individual or even a group of individuals - I think the problem is simply the world is much smaller than it once was. Ten years ago high speed connections were much more rare - and even then still somewhat unreliable. LAN parties were a reliable way to interact, play games and share files.
Many thanks to those of you who showed up at every LAN, and those those who stayed late to help tear down. Special thanks to SolidSnake, Fivo, Stevo and Powerflux for the aforementioned tasks as well as helping out in general. Thanks to the Worth Park District for allowing us the usage of their facilities - I don't think we could have found a better local venue to host our event, they were extremely flexible and very accomodating to nearly every request we had. Also thanks to the sponsors, many of which sent in absolutely terrible prizes (remember the year old, out of date lian-li calendars?), but especially to those who sent in the best stuff (I think Coolermaster sent us 5 or 6 ATX Full Tower cases!). It was much fun while it lasted, thanks for all the memories.
In addition to closing down the site, I am releasing the source of the IntraSite CMS to the public under the BSD License. It's a terrible mess and much of it is pretty specific to what we were using it for on LANmine; but I have a feeling it could be of use to someone out there to build a new LAN community. Please expect little to no support with this release; and there is absolutely no documentation. Your milage may vary and it causes the sudden mysterious death of your cat - don't sue me. Use of the LANmine name and logo still fall under my copyright, so don't use those - but all else is fair game.
